Indian actor Subhrajyoti Barat, who played a pivotal role in Madam Chief Minister, believes that while the row surrounding the film's poster wasn't unwarranted, targetting actress Richa Chadha was not correct.

Speaking to Times Now Digital, the actor opened up in length about the controversy that stirred a storm on social media months ago. The actor explained that he was aware of some voices being raised against the poster, and said that their objection wasn't baseless.

"So, the thing is I am not active on Twitter and as a result, I never encountered the controversy as a massive one. So it was a bit of a controversy, there were some voices raised that I am aware of. I think the objection that a few people took to the poster was not unwarranted, not baseless," he said.

The actor further added, "I think they had a point when they took that objection, but I think Richa was targetted, but Richa has no say in the poster. As an actor, you don't have a say in the poster design. So she was unnecessarily and unfairly targeted. That was the only problem. Otherwise, they pointed out a problem in the poster and that poster was taken down promptly another poster was put up."

For those unaware, the film's poster, which was released on January 5, was slammed by many on social media and the makers were accused of showing the Dalit community in a stereotypical way as Richa's character was shown holding a broom in her hand. The actress, however, had later shared an articulate note talking about the "unintentional oversight".

The actor also talked about his experience of working in the film and said that it was a great one. He recounted conversations about films and filmmaking from the sets.

Having been in the industry for some time, the actor has been a part of Mirzapur and Article 15 among others and will also star in the much-anticipated Saina Nehwal biopic. The actor, who is a well-known name in the Indian theatre fraternity, explained that it's only been 3-4 years that he's started to take media work seriously, as before that he only focussed on theatre.

Opening up about his journey, the actor said, "Till now, more or less, I have been fortunate to find roles that are different. I am looking forward to meatier roles and more substantial ones. That's the whole hope that I get to play different roles," he said.
